| Many channels and ports are difficult to navigate and enter due to
limited dredging or shoals or other obstacles; in these cases channel
marking buoys are useful, but the uni-directional range makes it much
easier for a pilot to navigate in such conditions. The RL240 range light meets all the requirements of a uni-directional modern aid to navigation for channels and harbour entrances. It produces a high intensity narrow directional beam with a low energy consumption. Various types of lenses are available to obtain varying divergencies: from the narrow and very powerful beam produced by the "flatlite" lens, to the wide beam (up to 30° ) produced by the "spredlite" lenses. The degree of divergence selected will depend on the points on each side of the channel from which the approaching vessels first see the light distinctly. The various lamp sizes available are those belonging to the C8S8 series. They give the desired range of visibility in respect to the angle of divergence. The 4-place or 6-place lampchanger provides and assures a longer functional period by placing a new lamp automatically when the operating lamp burns out.
